Re: Giant Grouper
This fish is not native to our waters, their presence is contributed by escapees from fish farms up at the north and perhaps released by religious groups. These are one of the biggest species in the grouper family, they can grow as big as a few hundred kilograms.

Re: Giant Grouper
I believe it was taken from a floating fish farm near Ubin.

Re: Giant Grouper
That one is supposedly a hybrid between giant grouper and tiger grouper, bred commercially. These escapees made way into Ubin waters and are getting more common recently.Commando_YR_Chin wrote: ↑Fri Sep 08, 2017 10:38 pmP.S: i saw this video online by a local fisherman... not sure if its the same type of fish, but it sure is cute...

I believe those are called Sabah Grouper in English or Long Fu Pan in Mandarin.Peace wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2017 7:41 pmThat one is supposedly a hybrid between giant grouper and tiger grouper, bred commercially. Re: Giant Grouper
The first and second link refers to different species. The latter is probably native while the former is a cross mating between a Tiger Grouper and a Giant Grouper. They don't occur naturally but are bred as such to get the good(for farming!) attributes of both species.
