深记香港烧腊煮炒
SUM'S KITCHEN & HONG KONG ROASTED MEAT
3 Jalan Legundi Singapore 759266

Tel : 6757 2118

Recommended by a friend.
Was warned not to visit this Hong Kong style Cantonese restaurant during weekends.
Had lunch there today ... reached half an hour before lunch time ...place was not difficult to locate.
Crowd was zero except the two of us ... but situation changed when we were half way through.
All the seatings were taken up shortly after our arrival.

New to this restaurant ... we ask for the captain to recommend some dishes to us.
She was quick to recommend us their house specialty, roasted duck.
Yes ... after trying it ... I have to say it is one of the best roasted duck.
Comes with sour plum sauce dip ... skin crispy, meat was tender and juicy with great flavor.

The peanut soup is super duper good.
I never like peanut soup. Was reluctant when I heard the soup of the day was peanut soup.
It's Simon's favorite so we went ahead with it.
The first spoonful of it had me wanting more of it ... both of us finish the whole bowl of soup.
It is cook with peanut but does not have this very strong peanut taste at all.
There were many ingredients used besides peanuts, there were chicken feet, duck wings, dried oyster, carrot
and pig's bones just to name a few which I managed to figure out.
I will definitely go back for more of this peanut soup.

Other dishes which we tried are fried bean curd which is also very delicious.
Crispy on the outside ...soft tender tofu on the inside cleverly mixed with carrot and ham.
The steamed Soon Hock ( tail portion ) was really great too.
The sauce was not too salty, fish was fresh with not a tinge of fishiness.
The fried beans spout looks like any normal stir fried veggies.
Tried it and you be surprised.
Stir fried with crispy white fish ... taste really different from those tse char style we normally get.

We were both satisfied with the food here.
In fact ..every dish was to our likings.
The above meal came to a bill of $57.60 with the most expensive dish at $24( steamed fish ).
I will put it as ... a restaurant which die die must go and try !

A good homemade soup is so much more than a bowl of ingredients cooked together in a pot of liquid.
Cantonese are well known to be great soup lovers ... if you enjoy good home made soup ...Sum's Kitchen is your answer.
We went back today, craving for a bowl of nice "home-cook" soup.

Soup of the day is 菜干汤.
Again the name and the look simply do not entice me but I am confident it will make me say wow again.
Yes, it did ... both of us enjoy the soup so much.
You have to try it yourself to really appreciate and understand how much hard work went into the preparation of the soup.
It look as simple as just boil some dried veggies with some pork bones ... take a sip and slowly appreciate the goodness in the soup.
I do not like drinking soup but after my first visit to Sum's Kitchen ... I am a convert.
Am craving for soup ... peanut soup !

We tried their sambal kang kong today.
Do not expect to see chunk of green leafy soaked in lotsa sambal and oil.
This one cook with a good amount of dried shrimps with chilli and garlic to taste.
A good amount of "wok hei" well soaked in the veggies ... so fragrantly.

The salted fish with minced meat is so tender ... you'll wonder if it is really pork.
Steamed to a right texture, it's so smooth you feel like you are eating steamed egg.

Every dish prepared with such care, the portion is just right and the pricing is very good.
The above meal came to a bill of $50.20

Do give Sum's Kitchen a try, you will not regret it. :D

It's Sum's Kitchen for dinner yesterday for us with woofie and eminor.
My new victim to the restaurant ... feed them with good food so they won't get heart attack for the shopping later on ...
It's Mission Accomplised ! :p
Stella and Rose is in the house.
Now ... it's time to get eminor addicted to the digital toy and join dBilicious ! :mischieve:

Alright back to serious and here's the review ...

As usual ... the soup has never disappointed us.
It's always a surprise for us as they changes their daily soup menu.
Soup of the day was sai yeung choi ... we finished the last drop in the bowl. ::x:

Wanting my kakis to try out some nice dishes ...
We had the usual sambal kangkong, crispy tofu, gu lou yok and the die die must eat steamed soon hook.
They ran out of the tail portion so we had the body part.
The chap was not too salty with a tinge of sweetness ...
The fish is a super must try ... once tasted you'll be addicted.

The bull frog with beans paste was a little "wet" this time.
I prefer it to be just a little dryer ... but it was delicious nevertheless.

Tried their steamed chicken with black fungus for the first time.
The chicken meat was juicy and tender ...

Need I say more ?
Head down to Sum's Kitchen for a home cook meal ~
