What kind of fish are you targeting for and where are you using it?
Edit: Isn't Abu Ultracast a Surf rod? A size 1000 reel maybe too small to pair with.

For small fishes it should be alright. But if you're using bigger lures, diving lures or other lures that have strong resistance, you may have some problems cranking them with a size 1000 reel. Other than that, you should be fine. Make sure the line you use match the rated strength of your rod. :)

I am a member there and FNR is HLF's partner as well. I do help there occasionally but I have to give priorities to my own site first. There's a lot to be done here particularly the main site. :) Besides, FNR has a fine team running the place and I believe they're doing a good job in answering queries as well.

Hi ... and welcome to HLF. :muffin:

Happens to spot this question here and hope my ans didn't come too late ...

I have to agreed this Abu Ultra Cast rod is a great rod for luring purposes ... however
Do not get the Abu Ultracast II ...
It's a "good" rod but only if you can find the first batch as in Abu Ultra Cast I
I have personally seen alot of these "toothy" (II) rod broken into more than two ...
Probably some manufacturing faults ... I do not know.
You might want to consider some other rod besides this one.

Good luck and hope you find a rod that suits you.

Cheers
dBs

If it's a light tackle set I think a Bassterra EV from Shimano would suit your purpose fine. Pretty decent low end rod, I personally find it stiff enough for my liking, could be just me though.
Look after the oceans, for you merely borrowed it from the future generation.
