Re: Malabar Grouper
As far as I know, no. Personally, I can't tell the difference in meat quality. It's usually believed, especially by Chinese, that red(orange) colour fish is of better quality than black ones.

Re: [Freshwater] Walking Catfish
It's generally more of your own preference for tackles. But if your lure is very light, it might be easier to cast with a spinning setup.

Re: Malabar Grouper
As with other edible fishes, it's really up to the angler's choice. For me, I would take home a grouper of decent size any day.

Re: Motoro Stingray
I'm not too sure about that but they're not the most agile fish to go after a fast moving lure, though I won't rule out someone foul hooking on one.

Re: Leopard Whipray
If you're into surf, you can try your luck for one at Bedok Jetty. I believe someone landed a pretty big one there before. Other than that, night boat fishing is an alternative.

Re: Bluespotted Ribbontail Ray
Like any other rays, they aren't fussy eaters and any bottom rigs will do. They aren't as common as brown rays so it might take some patience to encounter one.

Re: Bluespotted Stingray
Anglers surf fishing along East coast - Changi beaches will catch one every now and then. Takes patience and lots of luck!

Re: Common Ponyfish
Todak will take any small fish, especially when they're still alive. Ponyfishes are actually good eating fish but many species are too small in size.

Re: Brown Stingray
I think this is one my mis-ided ray. These should be a small size species of ray and are common in our waters. They're particularly common in our northern straits, ie. Punggol to Changi area. A simple apollo rig or a long trace bottom feeder rig with fish, prawns or squids as bait will do.

Re: Brownbanded Bambooshark
They're bottom feeders and they're more active in the night. Bedok Jetty is a good place to catch them.

Nice catch. One of the consistent species of fish you can catch there.

If it's main line, sure. Leaders should be heavier.

Re: Hound Needlefish
You have to remove the hook first but a common problem is that they're often gut hooked if landed. Prioritize your own safety over dislodging the hook, just cut the line if you're not confident in doing so and release it back. Cuts from their razor sharp teeth is pretty nasty.

Re: [Freshwater] Walking Catfish
I've personally never seen anyone catch one in our reservoirs before but I believe there are. The fact that we are limited to the use of artificial lures in reservoirs is one of the main reason we don't often see it anglers landing them.

Re: [Freshwater] Giant Snakehead
The popular way to fish for a toman is using live catfish, secured with two hooks on its back and attached to a float. Then you just observe the float as the catfish slowly swims about. When a toman takes the catfish, the float will move faster in one direction. As the catfish used is typically larg...
