Need help on braided lines

Post by BabyVal »

Hi guys. I'm sort of new to fishing and been wanting to change to braided lines. However I'm really confused with many brands and many ppl difference preference. So anyways I'm down to 2 brands that r within budget(<$30). Thinking of spider wire or power pro. I wanna know which is better. Pls give me honest comments n not bias ones thanks!

I'm also thinking whether to get 15lb or 20lb. Wanna use for ponds, shore fishing at jetty or offshore on boats. Basically a all in one line. Haha. Thanks.

what reel are you going to load the braid with? dont have much experience using spiderwire, but i have used powerpro and tuff xp ranging from 10lbs-40lbs line, so far no probs using this 2 brands. you can refer to this site for the braided line comparison http://www.paulusjustfishing.com/4linetesting.htm
hope this helps! cheers! :)

I have no experience with spiderwire so I can't give my opinion on the difference. I never had any issues with powerpro though. If this will be your all in one line, go for 20lbs. It can be an overkill for pond fishing but it'll be strong enough for offshore use.

i am a spider wire fan.

i have had it compared to fireline.

fireline frays after a period of usage. but not for spider wire. used a few spool already, never encounter fraying issue.

I'm using Surecatch braided line and Tuf Line XP. Recent, my observation is fishing lines seem to be more expensive.
I used to get Tuf Line from one of the tackle shops along beach road, but that shop shifted somewhere. Anyone knows where that shop shift to or anywhere else to find Tuf Line XP ?

Do you remember the shop name? There's been quite a few shifting of shops as well as ones closing down in recent years. Chop Hock Heng, Hotspot and Siow Chiang either closed their beach road branch or completely. Sabre, Coho, AO, Deep Sea shifted but most are still around beach road.

Sabre Tackle shifted a street across, on the same street as Born to Fish is(or was?). If it's Chop Hock Heng, it closed down its retail shop but I think they still have an office locally. The other shop beside Sabre was Hong Guan and it's still there.

I've not tried eupro lines before but I have good impression of them as an 'affordable yet decent performance' brand from using some of their other products. Have you got a chance to test out the line yet, let us know how you feel about it. Also, do they come in 8 strands?
