Flower crabs are full aquatic crabs so they have trouble staying out of water unlike mud crabs. But given a cool and damp condition, they can stay alive without water for a few hours. Tap water is a no no.
Congrats on the improvement!

Hi please include me in the next crabbing session. would like to know more on how the crab would get stuck in the bamboo type net as it seems that the place at the bait got no cage or net to get it stuck.

Re: CR 30th May (Sembawang) 6th June (Punggol Jetty)
Heres how it works(ive done crabbing,my first cat was landed tht way,tht was before i discovered sakibi jigs could catch small fish )
1:when the crab is on the cage trap,it eats at the food(shad,selar,tamban,prawns....)
2:suddenly, the net is pullled up, trapping mr crabby
3:the crab is trapped untill the cage is hauled up
4:enjoy ur catches!
Note:safety is important, never let a crab pinch u, trust me, it took weeks for my thumb to heal*
*actually, there have been worse...lets just say i was stung by a peh tor at the hotboys kelong and my finger is swollen... owie

Oh man, i think i gotta join you guys for a session. dont really understand but i reckon both net n cage work as well as the other. but i most prob getting cages. how many of the cages are enough. i haven got bite by any fishes but i hate the mossies and the sand flies. my feet still damn itchy .....

I think given time, most crabs would be able to get out of a bento trap while it's nearly impossible for it to escape from a caged trap, even for fishes. If you're leaving the trap over long hours unattended, caged traps will definitely be more effective. Setting up more traps definitely gives you increased chance of getting more crabs if they're spaced out.
Caged traps might be better overall but it is very bulky compared to the bento traps, so do you want fewer quality traps or more simple traps instead? That'll depend on the nature of your trip.
Welcome to HLF, drunkenchivas.

welcome to HLF drunkenchivas! i'm a new crabber just like u! if u want to check out how the crab traps work, u can always drop by sembawang jetty in the weekends. I think sembawang jetty is never empty of crabbers haha! there are some laojiao uncles there that go daily, so u might catch them even if u go down on weekday evenings!
Oh and probably my last CR for the next few weeks cos have to report for work already ): Last venue checked out was.. api-api!
Lowest Tide at 630am and High Tide at 1130am. So was there at abt 9am plus (cannot wake up). Set up 3 cages at the bridge. Caught small flower crabs.
Then I remembered bro tamban talking about going to the mangroves. So decided to chiongsua abit and head into the swamps..
Alright! My first big mud crab! Exciting sia, after all the small flower crabs.
had a hard time tying it up.. damn scared the claws will come for my finger. hahaha.. any easy ways to tie up the crabs ah?
Anyway, i realized if i go to the swamps, there're a lot of rocks there that'll trap my cages. how to get around this problem ah? And lol, remember to wear shoes/boots/rubber booties.. cos my slippers got stuck in the mud and i got a 1xbig fall. haha, in the name of crabbing!

Re: CR 30th May (Sembawang) 6th June (Punggol Jetty)
That's a nice mud crab alright, all the mud treading did pay off. But do be careful when treading on mud, it can get very deep sometimes so you don't want to walk too fast and slip into a deep end. I think alibabacrabber and tamban uses cable tie as a quick alternative, make sure to use a pair of pliers to do it.
We hope to see your cr again when you're free to do some crabbing adventure, I believe this mud crab will keep your spirits up at work for the next few weeks.

as for the rocky part u can recee the area 1st during low tide roughy knw where the rocky areas are than later when u depoly u can avoid that area.
u can buy pck boots when goin into swamps very gd to use easy to clean safely somemore
