You're right, this fish doesn't really fight. But probably because we don't commonly find really big ones that can really pack a punch. Unlike most fish which uses their tail to try to swim away, the toadfish typically resist by only shaking their head left and right. You can actually feel this when using handline and thus able to tell, with a certain level of confidence that it's him!

Fishbase shows that this fish can grow up to 30 cm. But from my local encounters, toadfish are typically 300g - 500g.

It's easy to catch if there's one around, they grab your bait and don't let go. There used to be plenty of them in Kallang River before it was made into the Marina Reservoir.

Fish is good to eat!completely safe and delicious!no muddy taste, soft yet firm.
Gutting technique:
Cut down from the head bone but don't penetrate the bottom skin
Use a fork or hand to pull off the tail meat away from the head and bottom skin
Lastly remove any excess skin from the body to remove the greasy look and taste
Note:the head and skin should be attached when gutting to ensure a clean gutting process
Simple cooking:season with salt and pepper
Dip in egg wash and potato flour and deep fry for 5-10mins depending on size
Serve with preference sauce like chilli or ketchup
Enjoy!

Great tip on gutting the fish, I should try this when I get a chance. Welcome to HLF, easternfish.
