The popular way to fish for a toman is using live catfish, secured with two hooks on its back and attached to a float. Then you just observe the float as the catfish slowly swims about. When a toman takes the catfish, the float will move faster in one direction. As the catfish used is typically large, you will need to give quite a bit of time for the toman to swallow the catfish before striking it with your rod.

Unfortunately, live baiting is illegal in our reservoirs and that's where tomans here are commonly found.

When you are fishing for tomans can you use 15lb line or should use use heavier line

If it's main line, sure. Leaders should be heavier.

I used to get good results with topwater lures when going for Tomans. Woodchopper lures, poppers or any lures that produces lots of splashing and vibrations are good choices. Works especially well when the water is calm.
