Water breakers can be tricky to fish at but groupers and many other fishes love hanging around the dropoffs. It's easier to fish during low tide when the dropoffs are exposed, otherwise you have to gauge its depth proper or risk losing your lures.

Dropoffs are steep angles of the along the breakwater slope. It is typically visible during the lowest water level of a spring tide. When concealed by incoming tide, you may misjudge the gradient of the slope and get your lures snagged.

It helps to observe with breakwater slope profile at different spots during low tide whenever you get a chance. A lot of breakwaters has a steep-flat-steep type of profile like a giant step. You might be tempted to go down and fish on the flat during low tide but my advice is don't. It's extremely slippery and ocassional big waves can knock you off balance.

It's probably the most common and adaptive species of grouper locally. You can catch them at almost any brackish or salterwater spots.

If you're fishing on jetty, it can be a toss up between live prawns and dead squids. Groupers, especially larger ones tend to prefer squids for the size alone. Live prawns on the other hand can be more attractive to smaller groupers and other species of fishes.

They stay a lot longer than prawns for sure. However, for fishes like puffers, whiptails, tigerperches make quick work of it.
