Best fishing Date of the month?

Post by fish-ng »

Hi all,

Got a newbie question and seeking your guidances:

how do we determine which is the best date and time to fish (just by looking at the calender and tide table) especially for offshore fishing?

Any rule of thumb?

Thanks in advance! :)

There's the fishing calendar that you can follow if you're not sure. But if you're still pretty new to fishing, you will want to avoid spring tides where current are typically the fastest. This is because you'll have trouble getting your sinker reaching the bottom or the sinker needed might be too big for your tackle setup.

You will want the day to have some current as most fishes tend to be more active when there is the water is moving. Current tends to be fastest during new and full moon (lunar 1-5/15-20), so you can try dates in between those. For accuracy, you should study the tide trend for the entire month to see how fast the current for each day will be.

You can try out lunar dates like 9,10,11 and 23, 24, 25 just for starters. You will also want to pick a date where your fishing hours will coincide with at least one change of tide (+/-2 hours).

Hi Peace,

Much appreciated for your response.. wanted to check if the dates mentioned in the "fishing calender" are those belonging to Chinese Calender or the normal calender? Or is there a difference, if at all?

Cheers..

Yes, those are in lunar dates(Chinese Calendar). There is a difference because lunar dates follow the moon phase, meaning certain phase of the moon like full moon will always fall on or around a particular lunar date. This directly affects the tide level and current speed of that day.
